Here on the right you see A-Rod handling four balls with a bunch of kids. OK its not what you think. Any way A-rod just opened an education center at the Southwest Miami Boys & Girls Club, where he learned to play ball as a kid. He is contributing $500,000 to get the project rolling and is encouraging others to help.
The $1.5 million Alex Rodriguez Education Center, to be located on the club's southeastern side and expected to be nearly 10,000 square feet, figures to open sometime in April. It will include a state-of-the-art computer laboratory, an area for Internet use, classrooms for homework study and a huge teen center, where the older kids can meet.
We always bash A-Rod on this site but really he is a good guy who says and does really stupid things if that makes any sense. No matter what you say, helping underprivileged kids is a very altruistic thing to do. He had this great quote to say about Yankee Stadium
"Yankee Stadium, to me, is the greatest museum in the United States," he said. "It's a great advantage as a player. You feel magical when you're in that [batter's] box."
